Marlborough Sounds baches and Golden Bay farms are often the most isolated properties in the country.

The local reality

This region covers three quite different landscapes: the Marlborough Sounds, where many bays and baches are reachable only by boat; Golden Bay, cut off from the rest of Tasman by the Takaka Hill; and Marlborough's flat inland wine valleys around Blenheim. Sounds properties are often entirely off-grid.

Wind and weather

The area is generally sunnier and more sheltered than Wellington, but exposed Sounds bays and coastal Golden Bay sites catch strong nor'westers and sea breezes, and salt air is the bigger long-term risk to mounting hardware here.

Areas covered

Installers in this region regularly work across Motueka, Takaka, Golden Bay, Havelock, Renwick, Blenheim, Picton and Murchison, plus the rural areas between. If you are outside these areas, ask anyway: travel is part of the job here.

Common questions

Can a Starlink installer reach a boat-access-only Marlborough Sounds property?

Some can, but travel by boat affects scheduling and cost significantly. Discuss access directly with an installer before booking.

Is Golden Bay too isolated for a professional install?

No, but the Takaka Hill crossing adds travel time. Confirm with an installer that they cover Golden Bay specifically, not just Nelson city.
